Why is it that we can't spend ourselves out of a depression and therefore FDR's huge New Deal spending programs did nothing to end the Depression, but FDR's even huger WWII spending programs did? According to are friends over there on the right,at least.
Hey, Lawguy, you're trying to argue reason - in wingnut land black is white and truths are lies.
Robert, makes even less sense when consumer purchases support foreign workers rather than our own. China's burgeoning "middle class" is supplanting our own. All the rhetoric about Free Trade is Bull - otherwise we wouldn't have the enormous outstanding trade deficit that we do. On the odd occasion they buy do something from the US, it's used to replicate a localized version of their own making. They're not stupid - but apparently we are. Thanks for dropping by - I'm going to make it back down to Naples one of these days! Is the Ridgemore Pub still around?

And don't forget the current day spending: taking out credit to buy consumer goods. That's another example of not investing in the future.
What is it we are looking it here??
