Stop the Press: My Head is Exploding

I was awakened around four this morning by the pretentious, nasal voice of Newt Gingrich being interviewed on The O'Reilly Factor. As the tsunami of incredible GobbledyNewt rushed towards my ears, the torpor eased and the words became clearer. Yet the more I awakened, the more uncertain I became whether this was reality or nightmare.
"The danger the news media runs, though, is a little bit of the Dan Rather effect. That if people conclude they do not trust the media, in the age of the Internet - first of all, it's going to substantially increase turning to places like Fox, uh, and turning to radio, and turning to the Internet, and having people say "I want to find out what really is happening, because I don't trust the sources." And I think, I think you agree with me on this that the - we've always had a biased news media, but, but the toleration recently for just plain factually false reporting is astonishing. And, and the fact that the newspapers don't have any sense of remorse, don't have any sense of correcting the record, uh, what it is, is - it's not a matter of opinion, it's just blatantly false."

Straight from the horse's mouth! Turning to Fox for integrity?
Gauge the irony of the "Truth Police" by your own volition.

I trust NO single media source, but instead read a wide variety of sources - both overseas and at home. Mix in a little psychology and some common sense and the real truth of a given matter generally becomes apparent. As you may have already concluded, however, Faux News predominately presents administration propaganda.

As for Newt, I have watched him blabber Newtisms since the mid-80s as he was a local figure in Marietta, GA. He and a few cronies that I take exception to...

Nice find! Here's my angle ...

Newt's trying so hard to get back in the game and the GOP is so beaten down that some will turn to him in what will be a mistake in the long run. Or at least we can hope. I'm actually thrilled when I see or hear Newt and some of these old hands back in the spotlight.

My tin foil idea is that somewhere some very powerful Republicans are figuring out how to work around Bu$h enough to salvage something for the 2010 cycle. They know they'll likely lose the White House in 2008 and the Senate seat numbers don't give them much of a chance of regaining control so they'll keep their powder dry and try to hang on for the two years. They'll also be trying to bring up some new talent.

Maybe Newt and his ilk are part of preparing for the hanging on? One could expect that the Fox Noise Channel and other dittoheads will be a huge part of fighting a defensive war for a couple of years and then going all out in 2010 and 2012. They'll also surely be a part of trying to avoid or limit investigations until Dubyah retires to Crawford so that could be one reason to keep Newt in front of the cameras and in the papers.

We better get used to this foolishness yet also be able to fight back with the tools at our disposal. Reminding folks of the failures of conservatism, not just Bu$hCo and his Rubber Stamp Congress, seems to be a good way to let old Newt keep hurting his/their cause. I'm far more worried about a new crop of conservatives that this old battle horse.

Newt's an easy target and even down here in Dixie people are waking up perhaps to the failures of his beloved "conservatism".

Peace ... or War!

Captain, he wants it so bad he's jonesing. He wistfully expects an enthusiastic yet disgruntled America will storm the polls and elect him as their new NeoCon godhead. And in this particular area, he commands an errie fascination from the locals. He has recently moderated some of his extreme positions in order to garner more widespread appeal, but the essence of my revulsion is that he is simply a grandstanding, opportunistic control and power freak. He has no desire to aid humanity's condition, only Newt's. It seems a game to him, not a responsibility.

I pretty much agree with what you state, yet I have trouble painting everyone who may be "conservative" with the same broad stroke of lunacy that BushCo represents. I have no qualms with fiscal conservativeness, efficient government, nor the genuinely spiritual. However, the current NeoCon pool is awash with has-been, profiteering hypocrites who represent nothing but proven failure. True Conservative tenets do not necessarily represent the same perverted ideologies that are embraced by the NeoCons. Unfortunately, national committees make it impossible for variations to exist within the party and the players involved possess no backbone to speak of.

Frankly, I reject the partisan BS that currently, yet sadly, represents a major constituent element of our government as it does not engender solutions, only meaningless competition. Both party's goals should be to provide genuine solutions to substantive problems and running the infrastructure efficiently to best serve the citizenry - not partisan cheap shots, empire building, cronyism and corporate profiteering.

But hey, what do I know?!

I agree some conservatives are solid. It's just for me it seems like few are left that haven't gone completely over to the dark side. I had known several genuine and smart conservatives in my past yet right now have few if any that I can turn to for reasoned discourse. Several that I do talk with loathe Dubyah and his enablers. When in California I met plenty of Republicans and others on the right that were voting for Democratic candidates as they were fed up with the modern GOP.

Also, how do you know the Gingrich goons visited? If there's a gizmo or technique I might like to see if anyone visits my posts.

I hear you on the waning number of sane, non-dark side Cons. I blame Faux for much of this nationally, and Limbough and Boortz locally. The conservative brand has been sullied almost beyond salvation, and perhaps we are long overdue for a new party (or two) that represents sanity to take root.

Normally I use a component on our in house servers, along with the internal web server logs, for tracking hits. But due to the desire to remain somwhat anonymous, coupled with the fact that I don't have access to the blogger.com servers, I use a free service known as StatCounter. Their URL is:

Unlike many other "free" services of this nature, they don't load up tracking cookies for third parties. As with all things in life, this could change in the future.
